Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Osun State have arrested two men for allegedly encroaching on people’s land and mining illegally.

The suspects are Ogunmokun Joshua, aged 24, an indigene of a mining community Iperindo, Atakumosa East Local Council of the state and a 26-year-old Amos Danjos, who hails from Kachia Local Council of Kaduna State.

The Public Relations Officer of NSCDC, Osun State Command, DSC Adigun Daniel, in a statement issued yesterday on behalf of Commandant Emmanuel Ocheja, said the duo were arrested while carrying out illegal mining activities on December 12, 2021 at Iperindo, a mining community in the state.

According to him, the suspects were arrested with their working tools including shovel, generators among others. The statement read: “In line with one of the mandates of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, to crack down all illegal mining operators in the country, two persons have been arrested for alleged conspiracy, illegal encroachment and illegal mining in Osun State.

“The suspects made a confessional statement to have been culpable of the offences levelled against them.

“Commandant Emmanuel Ocheja,  who affirmed that the suspects would definitely be charged to court at the expiration of investigations, warned all criminally minded persons in the state to relocate from Osun or damn the consequences of their despicable acts.”
