NSE Akure branch urges governments on energy efficiency for economic growth

…Commends Ondo Governor for creating enabling environment for engineers
The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Akure Branch has called on the government at all levels to make more investments in energy sufficiency across the country for economic growth.

The Chairman, FNSE, Akure Branch, Engr. Bolawole Stephen disclosed this at the Branch’s 2023 edition of Engineering Week, which has the theme: “Energy Self Sufficiency as Key to Nigeria Economic Sustainability and Development,” held in Akure, Ondo State.

According to him, as a major source of energy, accessibility of electricity aids the process of meeting residential and domestic needs, positively contributes to capital and labour productivity, and promotes export potentials of the country.”
Stephen also called on members as engineers “to remember that for any nation to develop, the expertise of her engineers is of utmost importance which must be geared towards innovation and technological advancement”.

“This can only be possible through the optimisation of skills and creativity. Hence, engineering excellence is a critical pivotal that must be adopted by all engineers.

He said this year’s occasion will feature Engr. Tunji Ariyo, FNSE, will do justice to the theme by addressing the perennial energy crisis from the perspective of multi-sector productivity.”

He said that our energy market both the electricity and transportation systems still rely on the global energy trading system for us to be self-sufficient in this area we need to adopt critical solutions to finish domestic production in the economy. As well our refineries need to be put in place for economic prosperity.

He also commended the federal government to sign into law the Electricity Act which gave power to states to also regulate. And also want to commend the Ondo State Government for its huge investment in that area.
