NUJ inspects Kano projects, scores Yusuf’s investments high

The Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) has applauded the Kano State Government’s massive road infrastructural architecture, remodelling the old city centre.

NUJ President, Alhassan Yahya, gave the high rate on Tuesday while leading members of the National Executive Council (NEC) and other national delegates who were in Kano for the NEC meeting on projects inspection.

Comrade Yahya essentially cited the quality of infrastructures and other capital projects which were conducted in the metropolis, and described Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s investment in urban renewal as a thoughtful initiative that enhances economic growth.

The Union’s National President emphasised the scale of the works, which, when completed, would not only improve residents’ quality of life but also enhance Kano’s standing as a commercial hub.

“We came, and we saw, and we believe in what we saw. No doubt, this administration is really doing a lot in the area of road infrastructure, and it’s our expectation that at the end of the construction, we’ll still come back to see how those beautiful roads are going to be utilised by citizens and visitors across the country.

“It was deliberate; we decided to focus more on road construction because there are a lot of projects in the area of the health sector, agricultural sector, environment, and the rest, but time will not permit us to move around everywhere,” Yahya noted.

Projects visited by the NUJ NEC members include a multi-billion naira DanAgundi Underpass, and similar critical infrastructure at Tal’udu; a Lecture Theatre Hall at Northwest University, along Tudun Yolanda; Sharada and Yahya Gusao roads, among others.

The NUJ NEC members, consisting of Chairmen and Secretaries of NUJ across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), were subsequently received on courtesy by Governor Yusuf at Government House.

Yusuf, represented by the deputy, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Garzo, emphasised the critical role of the media in national development and urged the NUJ to enhance its impact on national issues while setting a critical agenda in nation-building.

“The media remains a critical partner of our administration and a major stakeholder in nation-building, and we acknowledge your role in holding government accountable.”

Yusuf stressed readiness to welcome constructive criticism from the media while cautioning for responsible journalism from practitioners in the country.

He said his administration will continue to create an enabling working environment and sustain support for building human capacity in the state.

Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Abdullahi Ibrahim Waiya, reminded that the Kano State Government is dedicated to repositioning the media landscape and strengthening mutual relations.

Waiya said Yusuf’s giant strides in infrastructure and human capital developments have attracted global recognition, as reflected in various meritorious awards by corporate bodies.
