Members of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) and Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN) in South-West, yesterday, stormed Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, to demand the implementation of the local council financial autonomy bill passed by the National Assembly.

The unions were joined by the leaders of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in the region.

The peaceful protest, which kicked off from the NLC Secretariat at Agodi, took the protesters to Oyo State House of Assembly where they solicited the support of the House to hasten the passage of the autonomy bill into law at the state level.

The Lagos State NLC Chairman, Funmi Sessi and South-West NULGE Chairman, Abimbola Babalola, said their petition was a call for electoral stability, rapid grassroots development, protection of each arm of government in the discharge of their duties, among others.

The Speaker of the Assembly, Adebo Ogundoyin, said the House was in full support of the unions, stressing that their requests will bring nothing but development.

Ogundoyin pledged the readiness of the Assembly to support the implementation of the bill.
