The Kaduna State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) has commended Governor Uba Sani, describing him as a worthy ambassador of the Renewed Hope Agenda, following the release of N4.289 billion for the payment of gratuities, death benefits, and accrued rights of its members.
In a letter of appreciation signed by its State Executive Chairman and Secretary, Aboman Ladan and Alhassan Balarabe Musa, respectively, the union said the gesture “has not only put smiles on the faces of pensioners but has also gone a step further in renewing their hope for the settlement of other outstanding entitlements.”
Last week, Governor Sani approved the release of N4.289 billion to settle benefits owed to retired civil servants and the families of deceased workers across state and local government services.
The approval covers payments under the Contributory Pension Scheme (accrued rights) and the Defined Benefit Scheme (gratuities and death benefits), benefiting a total of 1,637 individuals.
Under the Contributory Pension Scheme, N3.915 billion will be disbursed to 1,392 pensioners, while 245 beneficiaries will receive a total of N374 million under the Defined Benefit Scheme.
The union noted that the “timely intervention has brought great relief and renewed hope to many of our members who have waited patiently for years. For numerous bereaved families, Your Excellency’s gesture has eased their burden and restored their faith in government.”
“We are truly grateful for your compassion and for keeping the welfare of senior citizens at the heart of your administration. You are indeed an ambassador of the Renewed Hope Agenda,” the statement added.
However, the union reminded the governor of outstanding liabilities, noting that some pensioners—particularly the elderly—are yet to receive their entitlements.
The letter, dated April 16, 2026, expressed confidence in the governor’s ability to clear all pension arrears, citing his goodwill and track record.
Meanwhile, the latest disbursement brings the total amount paid by Governor Sani since assuming office to N17.796 billion, benefiting no fewer than 8,344 retirees and families of deceased workers.
