Onu, a former national Chairman of defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party ANPP, was buried on Friday in his country home Uburu in Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi.
Speaking, Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru described the late Ogbonnaya Onu as a man whose contributions have left an indelible mark in the state and Nigeria in general.
According to him, Onu was a pursuer and stickler to democratic ideals of equity and social justice insisting that Onu’s legacy is not only a personal one but a legacy share to all.
Nwifuru made the pronouncement of 100 million naira for the completion of the Catholic Church during a solemn funeral mass held in honor of Dr. Onu at Uburu in Ohazara local government Area of Ebonyi state.
Nwifuru, however, noted that his pledge reflects on the commitment to honor the legacy of the late statesman and supporting the community in their time of mourning, adding that the completion of Dr. Onu’s home church holds significant importance for both the local community and the family of the deceased.
Nwifuru’s donation is expected to provide crucial support for the finalisation of the church construction, ensuring that it stands as a lasting tribute to the late Dr. Ogbonnia Onu.
The gesture underscores the governor’s dedication to preserving the memory and legacy of a respected figure in the community.
The announcement of the substantial donation has been met with gratitude and appreciation by those in attendance at the funeral mass, highlighting the significance of the governor’s contribution to the completion of Dr. Onu’s home church.
