
The Wife of Ebonyi state Governor Chief (Mrs.) Mary-Maudline Nwifuru has emphasised the need to accelerate action towards achieving gender equality and women’s empowerment commending their resilience and achievement of women in nation building
Mrs. Nwifuru stated this during the celebration of International Women which took place at Ebonyi state Women Development Centre applauded the hard work and dedication of women in Ebonyi, noting that they play a crucial role in the development of the state.
Nwifuru noted that in Ebonyi State, as in many parts of Nigeria and around the world, women have played pivotal roles in shaping communities and driving progress adding that despite is tbese roles by women there are still significant gaps in gender equality that need our immediate attention.
She said this year theme, “Accelerate Action,” is a call to urgency which reminds us that while progress has been made, we can no longer afford to move at a slow pace in the fight for gender equality, economic empowerment, and social justice for women and girls.
He noted that she has through her pet project Better Health for Rural Women, Children and Internally Displaced Foundation (BERWO) touched the lives of women especially less privilege commending eminent Nigerians for supporting her pet project.
She said, “My pet project has witnessed remarkable strides in women’s empowerment. Through pro-women policies, inclusive governance, and targeted programs, we have continued to uplift women and create an environment where they can succeed.
“I welcome you all to this year’s International Women’s Day Celebration. Today is a day of reflection, celebration, and renewed commitment to the advancement of women and girls in Ebonyi State.
“It is a day we honor the contributions, sacrifices, and achievements of women in different spheres of life, our mothers, daughters, sisters, and friends who continue to break barriers, challenge stereotypes, and contribute to the development of our society.
“International Women’s Day is not just a day of celebration; it is a powerful reminder of the struggles women have faced throughout history and continue to face today. It serves as a platform to honor women’s achievements across social, economic, cultural, and political spheres.
“In Ebonyi State, as in many parts of Nigeria and around the world, women have played pivotal roles in shaping communities and driving progress. However, we must recognize that there are still significant gaps in gender equality that need our immediate attention.
“The Significance of This Year’s Theme: “Accelerate Action is a call to urgency. It reminds us that while progress has been made, we can no longer afford to move at a slow pace in the fight for gender equality, economic empowerment, and social justice for women and girls.
“It is time to act decisively, boldly, and collectively to close the gender gaps in education, healthcare, leadership, entrepreneurship, and technology. It is time to break down the systemic barriers that limit the full participation of women in governance and economic development.
“For years, women have called for equal opportunities. Today, we must move from advocacy to action, from discussions to implementation.
“The future of women in Ebonyi State and beyond depends on the steps we take now to ensure a society where every woman and girl has the right to dream, to work, to lead, and to thrive without limitations.”
Earlier in her address the chairman of the occasion and Deputy Governor of Ebonyi state Princess Patricia Obila commended the efforts of women in promoting peace, unity, and development in Ebonyi.
The commemoration of international women’s day celebration in Ebonyi featured various activities including speeches, presentations, and performances that showcased the talent and achievements of women in Ebonyi.
