IN a bid to guarantee the security of its certificate from forgery and block all chances of impersonation, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has introduced a new Certificate of National Service.

The NYSC said with effect from Batch ‘C’ 2014, all Certificates of National Service would bear the passport photograph of the corps members at the upper right hand corner of the document.

Speaking at the unveiling of the newly improved NYSC certificates yesterday in Abuja, the Director-General of the scheme, Brigadier-General Johnson Bamidele Olawunmi, explained that Batch ‘C’ Corps members who are due to pass out today Thursday October 15th, 2015 will have their certificates embossed with their photograph.

According to him: “In our concerted effort to make the operation of the NYSC conform with global best practices, the scheme engaged in the holistic e-NYSC solution with effect from Batch ‘C’ 2014 where prospective corps members register online before proceeding to the orientation camp.

“This resulted in the enhancement of issuance of NYSC certificates namely: Certificate of National Service, Certificate of Exemption and Letter of Exclusion.”

The NYSC DG assured that effort is being made by the scheme to also make the verification of all NYSC certificates to be automated for easy access by the general public.

Speaking further, Olawunmi, who was represented by the Acting Director of Certification of the Scheme, Mr. Aliu Daura, also noted that all certificates of exemption with effects from Batch ‘C’ 2014 were embossed with their passport photographs at the upper right hand corner of the certificates.

“The Federal Government of Nigeria in its efforts to manage and reduce the corps population to the barest minimum, decided to exclude all graduates of part-time, distance learning and sandwich programmes with effects from 2001 and since then, Letter of Exclusion is issued to this category of graduates.
