Obareki gifts Ikot Okoro Hospital solar power

…Clears medical bills of patients

Founder of the Obareki Onoriode Foundation, Elder Onoriode Obareki, today marked his birthday at the General Hospital, Ikot Okoro in Oruk Anam Local Government Area, where he donated a 5KVA solar power system to improve electricity supply in the facility.

The donation is expected to enhance lighting and support basic medical services in the hospital, which has faced power challenges, commonly in rural healthcare centres.

Speaking during the visit, Obareki, who is also a son-in-law of the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, said the gesture was part of his commitment to supporting local communities, noting that stable electricity is critical to effective service delivery in hospitals.

On his part, the Medical Superintendent of the hospital, Dr. Idara Usen, described the intervention as strategic and timely, stating that the solar installation would significantly boost service delivery and improve working conditions for staff.

Also speaking, Chairman of Oruk Anam Local Government Area, Hon. Sunday Festus Akpan, who received the donor alongside health officials, commended Obareki for the generous initiative, describing it as impactful and beneficial to residents of the area.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ekem John, applauded the gesture, noting that it complements the ongoing efforts of the state government to strengthen healthcare infrastructure, including the construction of a new maternity block and staff quarters at the facility.

In addition to the solar power donation, Obareki also donated 150 bags of 5kg rice to patients in the hospital and members of the host community, and cleared the medical bills of patients across various wards in the hospital.

Among the beneficiaries were Mrs. Victoria Friday Udoekpo; Chief Peter Ukana; Daniel Isonguyo; and Lady Blessing Usenekong, who delivered a baby via caesarean section and several other pregnant women.
