Obaseki commissions Catholic society’s kidney dialysis centre in Edo

Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State yesterday commissioned a dialysis centre in Benin City to provide affordable treatment to those suffering from kidney-related ailments. The Catholic’s St. Vincent De Paul Society at the St. Paul Parish in Benin City initiated the 14-room health centre.

Obaseki, accompanied by his wife, Betsy, expressed satisfaction at its completion, noting that it would not only benefit the state but the country at large.While commending the society’s vision for initiating the centre, he promised to continue to support its operation.

“I met the group when I was campaigning to be the governor and I promised God that the centre would be commissioned if I was successful at the election. That promise has been fulfilled.”

The Archbishop of the Metropolitan Sea of Benin City, Dr. Augustine Akubeze and the Parish Priest of St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Rev. Fr. Paul Enow commended the governor and the society for the project’s completion.

Also, the president of the society Mrs. A. Onojah, noted that the health centre was conceived to redress the problems faced by those having kidney disease.She explained that death rate from kidney-related problems was very high due to late dialysis and treatment.

“We intend to take a holistic care of this challenge by ensuring that treatment is within the reach of the poor. The centre is part of our service to humanity,” she said.
Onojah disclosed that the centre was built to save lives, rather than making profit.
