Obaseki declares for Edo governorship race

Odubu seeks continuity in government
Chairman of Edo State Economic Team, Godwin Obaseki has officially declared his intention to run for the 2016 governorship election in the September race, on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The aspirant said it would be unwise for him to walk away from the state after contributing to its development in the last seven and a half years.

“Over the last thirty years, I have had successful experience in the private sector and over the last seven years, I have been part of the most successful administration in Nigeria which is Edo state,” he said.Various political weights and interest groups, who gathered at Urhopota hall, took their time to endorse his declaration.

The state commissioner for works, Osarodion Ogie and Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Mrs Elizabeth Ativie led party chiefs to endorse Obaseki.

Majority Leader of the house, Folly Ogedengbe endorsed him on behalf of Edo North, while former Deputy Governor Lucky Imasuen endorsed on behalf of Edo South.

Also, Deputy Speaker of the assembly, Justin Okonobo endorsed the aspirant on behalf of the people of Edo Central.Others who endorsed him included the youth wing of APC led by Tony Kabaka, officials of Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON) led by Onee Morrison, market women and several leaders of the party.

Obaseki in his addressed said “as this administration comes to an end, we are faced with new challenges, as you all know, the price of crude oil has reduced significantly therefore Nigeria is not able to earn enough foreign exchange to import its goods and services.”

He said the challenges “has brought economic hardship to many of us, as these challenges pose new threats to us. In the face of these challenges, we need a leadership with fresh and original ideas to help us face these challenges, so that we can build on the success of the Oshiomhole led administration.”

Meanwhile the state deputy governor, Pius Odubu yesterday said he has been in government serving the people and wanted to continue that service as governor of the state.

Odubu, who is also an aspirant on APC platform the made this declaration during a meeting with delegates of the party ahead of the APC primary scheduled for June 18, 2016.
