Edo State Head of Service (HoS), Anthony Okungbowa, has said ongoing reforms in the state’s civil and public service by the Governor Godwin Obaseki administration are aimed at equipping workers with right skills to deliver quality and efficient services to the people.

This is contained in a statement from the office of Special Assistant on Media Project to the State Government, Mr. Crusoe Osagie. According to the statement, the Head of Service said government was pursuing holistic reform of the bureaucratic system, upgrading infrastructure and training staff to be able to perform optimally and contribute to the development of the state.

Okungbowa stated this when he received Award of Integrity and Stewardship from Advocacy for Peace and Values Reorientation, a non-governmental organisation that advocates good governance and peace in Nigeria.

According to him, 21st century demands that every civil/public servant be equipped with right skills to meet technologically driven work ethics, adding that government was taking critical steps to ensure workers in the state are able to compete with their peers across the globe.

The Head of Service noted that government remained committed to the welfare of workers in the state and would not relent in its efforts at sustaining ongoing reforms designed to make the service the best in terms of livelihood for workers and optimal service delivery to Edo people.

MEANWHILE, the state government has extended credit facilities from the Edo Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Fund to businesses in the agriculture, education, food processing and petrochemical sectors.

The N2 billion MSME fund was instituted by the governor to support businesses in the state with microcredit and SME Fund from N100,000 to N20 million. The fund is managed in partnership with the Bank of Industry and TrustFund Microfinance Bank.

According to the Project Manager of the Edo MSME Fund, Joseph Ojoboh: “The Fund is currently managed by Edo State Skills Development Agency (EdoJobs) and it is intended to provide financial and other business support services to qualified entrepreneurs involved in Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises located in the 18 council of the state.”
