Edo State governor, Godwin Obaseki, yesterday, assured of his government’s support to security of life and property in the state.
He disclosed this when he received the new Commander of 4 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Brig. Gen. Danlami Ndahi, and his entourage, who were on a courtesy visit at Government House, Benin City.
He hailed the army command for its role in strengthening the state’s security initiative, ensuring peace and unity across communities.
The governor said: “We welcome the new commander of 4 Brigade Nigerian Army in the state. The brigade has been an integral part of the security architecture, as the state has enjoyed tremendous support from the brigade for a very long time.
“I assure the new army commander that this administration is open. I want to assure you that you are home and should see yourself as one of us.”
Obaseki said refurbishment of some buildings is ongoing at the Ekenwan Barracks, urging the new commander to collaborate with his administration to ensure completion of the project.
He added: “We have made commitment to help fix some blocks of accommodation at the Ekenwan Barracks for some officers who are having problems with accommodation.
“We will also be relying on you to give us support to secure, protect and improve security in our waterways in Edo State.”
On his part, Ndahi said: “As the chief executive officer and chief security officer of Edo, I need to pay you a courtesy visit, so you know me.
“My predecessor has told me of your collaboration with the command in ensuring security of the state. I will do my best to improve on the work of my predecessor.”
