Obi pays respects to late Buhari, Awujale, Olubadan

Peter Obi

Former Governor of Anambra State and Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has expressed sorrow over the deaths of three prominent Nigerian leaders, including former President Muhammadu Buhari, the Awujale of Ijebuland, and the Olubadan of Ibadanland.

In a series of condolence messages posted Monday, Obi described the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari as a solemn moment for the nation, while also paying tribute to the long reigns of Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona and Oba Akinloye Owolabi Olakulehin.

“I have just received the very sad news of the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari in London,” Obi stated. “His death provides a solemn moment, not just for his family and close associates, but for our nation as a whole.”

Obi described Buhari as one who “always comported himself in a dignified manner as a leader,” and extended his condolences to the late president’s wife, children, extended family, and the Nigerian people.

“May Almighty Allah, Most Gracious and Most Merciful, forgive President Buhari’s shortcomings, reward his efforts in service to the nation, and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus,” he added.

The former Anambra governor also acknowledged the deaths of two traditional rulers—Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, the Awujale of Ijebuland, and Oba Akinloye Owolabi Olakulehin, the Olubadan of Ibadanland.

“With a heavy heart but in reflection of a long fulfilled 91 years of purpose, I mourn the passing of His Royal Majesty, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, the revered Awujale of Ijebuland,” Obi wrote. “Oba Adetona served our dear nation for over six decades with commitment and his legacy will forever live on.”

He also expressed sadness over the death of Oba Olakulehin, who passed away at the age of 90.

“Oba Owolabi Olakulehin showed unity and strength to Ibadanland and will be remembered as a man of peace,” Obi said.

He concluded his messages by praying for the peaceful repose of the departed leaders and for their legacies to serve as guiding lights for future generations.
