Governorship candidate of the Labour Party in the 2019 general elections and leader of the party in Imo State, Chief Ikechukwu Ukaegbu, has urged other prominent politicians in the state to throw their support behind the presidential candidacy of Peter Obi.

Ukaegbu made the appeal at a rally tagged, ‘One Million March’ he organised with other party leaders in support of Obi’s candidacy held in Owerri at the weekend.

The party chieftain, who described Obi as the best alternative among other contenders, said: “Only his victory in 2023 will guarantee socio-economic and political transformation in the country.

“Nigerians have endured so many woes ranging from insecurity, economic retardation, high rate of unemployment, and poverty, among other ills, but the anticipated victory of Obi in 2023 would change the narrative.

“Obi stands out among other contenders based on his pedigree, integrity and antecedents. We have no doubt he will deliver if elected to pilot the affairs of this country.

“This is why I am using this opportunity to call on well-meaning Nigerians, especially top politicians in Imo to join us in support of Obi. For us in Labour Party, his emergence is divine and God will perfect our prayers through him for a better Nigeria in 2023.”

Ukaegbu also urged the party leaders to continue to galvanise support for the party in the state.

He stressed: “Labour Party is poised to garner over 90 per cent votes in the state in 2023. Today’s rally is a litmus test of what should be expected in favour of our party, and will also translate to votes for the party.

“Much as we are confident that votes for Obi and our other party candidates will be massive, overwhelming and unmatched, we should not leave any stone unturned until victory is achieved.”
