Ododo creates Ministry of Livestock Development in Kogi
Gov. Ahmed Ododo of Kogi has approved the establishment of Ministry of Livestock Development in the state .
This is contained in a statement by the Secretary to the Government of Kogi State, Dr Folashade Ayoade in Lokoja on Friday.
Ayoade explained that the decision, which was with immediate effect was aimed at enhancing livestock management in the state in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu.
She emphasised that the initiative was aimed at addressing critical livestock issues and supporting sustainable development in Kogi’s Agricultural sector.
“The ministry is expected to enhance productivity and improve economic opportunities for farmers and livestock stakeholders.
“It will be recalled that the Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA), Kogi Chapter, in July 2024, called for establishment of the ministry in the state.
“The Chairman, Kogi Chapter of NVMA, Dr Tolu Omotugba, urged Ododo to consider the appointment of a credible Veterinarian as Commissioner when the proposed ministry is created.
“Also, during the flag off ceremony to commence implementation of Private Veterinary Practice (PVP) programme in December, Omotugba urged Ododo to domesticate ministry to help consolidate on the gains of livestock production and resilience support when the project ends.”
