Ogun APC candidate Dapo Abiodun

Campaigners for the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Ogun State, Mr. Dapo Abiodun, have denied alleged rift in their ranks and in the leadership of the party in the state.

“Our attention has been drawn to a statement credited to some disgruntled elements supporting other candidates and disparaging the campaign team of Abiodun and Ogun party leaders, alleging rift and unease. We found the statement blackmailing and malicious. The story lacks substance and fails to reflect the present state and mood of our campaign,” they said in a statement yesterday.

According to the campaign organization, the report was aimed at slandering Abiodun, “who has so far enjoyed the patronage and support of party leaders and people of Ogun State.”

“These are indeed perilous times for losers as the campaign hots up. We would not have joined issues with these unscrupulous individuals peddling lies and rumours but for unsuspecting supporters and people of Ogun who are bothered about the recurring attack on our campaign team.

“It is necessary we set the record straight. We started our campaign rally tagged ward-to-ward grassroots mobilisation in Ijebu North East, an idea conceived by Abiodun because charity, they say, begins at home. Our candidate is from Iperu – Remo area of Ijebu, logic demands he begins his campaign and political struggle from his home base where he was born and nurtured. This better explains the reason for readjusting the schedule of the campaign.

“It is also necessary to remind our people of the anti-party blackout that caused the national leadership to dissolve the state executive council, which in no small measure affected our planning and caused the adjustment of our campaign kick off date to hold on Monday 7th, January, 2019.

“Of note is the fact that all the important stakeholders are fully in support of our campaign, most of the leaders occupy strategic positions as the party moves round the state asking for the people’s vote.”
