The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ogun I Area Command, Idiroko, has intercepted 487 illicit consignments with a combined Duty Paid Value (DPV) of ₦4.13 billion across Ogun State in 2025.
The Area Comptroller, Mr Olukayode Afeni, disclosed this on Thursday at a press briefing held at the command headquarters in Idiroko.
Afeni attributed the seizures to intelligence-led operations, improved border surveillance, and the commitment of officers of the command.
He further disclosed that the command generated and remitted ₦454.67 million to both federation and non-federation accounts of the Federal Government in 2025, representing a 47 per cent increase over the ₦275.84 million recorded in 2024.
“This performance clearly reflects a significant improvement in the revenue profile of the command,” the comptroller said.
Afeni expressed confidence that the command would surpass its 2025 revenue achievements, noting that revenue collection figures recorded in early 2026 indicate sustained growth.
According to him, between January 1 and January 28, 2026, the command remitted ₦106.28 million to the federation account—higher than the ₦89.58 million generated in the corresponding period of 2025, representing an 84.3 per cent increase.
He said the improved revenue performance was driven by the diligence of officers, cooperation from compliant traders, and collections from baggage assessments, import and export duties, and auction sales of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).
Listing the seizures made during the period, Afeni said they included 22,725 bags of foreign parboiled rice, 2,669 kegs (66,725 litres) of PMS, 2,128 rounds of Red Star cartridges, 13,332 parcels of cannabis sativa, and 25 bales of used clothing.
Other intercepted items were four foreign-used vehicles, 2,034 used pneumatic tyres, 12 cartons of Gino tomato paste, 18 bags of 50kg sugar, one carton of insecticide inhaler, 4,228 cartons of 10kg Dogs brand spaghetti, and 2,097 kegs of 25-litre vegetable oil.
The comptroller also disclosed the seizure of 1,315 pieces of Riodin explosives, 11 Dane guns, two locally fabricated firearms, two revolver pistols, 27 wraps weighing 28.9kg of crystal methamphetamine, 16 parcels weighing 16kg of heroin, and six units of used Boxer motorcycles.
Afeni said the command has intensified its anti-smuggling operations in line with extant laws and trade guidelines, leveraging credible intelligence and sustained collaboration with sister security agencies to enforce government fiscal policies and curb economic sabotage along Nigeria’s border corridors.
He commended the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adeniyi, for his continued support, describing it as instrumental to the command’s achievements.
