Ogun faults design of Gbenga Daniel’s road project, orders review

The Ogun State Government has directed Minim and Tonye Nigeria Limited, the contractor handling Senator Gbenga Daniel’s constituency road project on Paddy Arikawe Oye Igbimo Road in Sagamu, to revise its engineering designs and ensure full compliance with state specifications.

The directive follows the contractor’s submission of a bill of quantities on Monday, days after it was cautioned for commencing work without prior state approval.

In a letter dated September 22, 2025, signed by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works, Engr. Dr. Yusuf I. O, the government declared the current design unacceptable, noting that it fell below required standards.

The state observed that while Daniel’s proposed road project spans 3 kilometres and is divided into four phases, approval has only been granted for the first phase covering 260 metres.

The contractor was asked to clarify which portion of the road the approved section covers.

The Ministry of Works specified that the concrete binding must be Grade 20, while the reinforced concrete base, walkways, and deck must be a minimum of Grade 25, with high-yield tensile strength of at least 460 N/mm².

It further directed that the reinforced concrete pavement must be at least 220mm thick of Grade 35 concrete, preferably Grade 40, as against the 150mm, Grade 20 pavement initially proposed. The stone base thickness should also be 200mm.

The contractor was instructed to provide a full layout with elevations, grades, pavement reinforcement details, a complete list of engineering materials, and quality assurance testing documentation. Design criteria codes must also be included when resubmitting the revised drawings.
