• Assembly Speaker calls for functional security to tackle crimes in communities
Ogun State Government, yesterday, held a strategic security meeting with Fulani leaders, security agencies, and other critical stakeholders as part of efforts to strengthen peace and prevent potential security threats across the state.
The meeting, held in Abeokuta and convened by Special Adviser to the Governor on Security, Assistant Inspector-General (AIG), Olusola Subair (rtd), brought together security service chiefs, security consultants, representatives of local council chairmen, traditional Fulani leaders (Serikis), and representatives of the Miyetti Allah group.
Subair, speaking at the meeting, emphasised the importance of proactive engagement and collaboration between communities and security institutions to sustain the state’s peaceful environment.
He noted that security is most effective when there is strong cooperation between the government, security agencies, and community leaders.
The meeting also provided a platform for open dialogue on ways to enhance cooperation between security agencies and community leaders across the state.
Fulani leaders present at the meeting reaffirmed their commitment to peaceful coexistence and pledged their support for efforts to prevent criminal elements from infiltrating their communities.
Chairman of Miyetti Allah in the South-West, Muhammad Kabir Labar, and the National Coordinator of the group, Abdul Mumuni Ibrahim, assured the state government of their readiness to cooperate fully with the security agencies in maintaining peace.
HOWEVER, Ogun State Police Command, in a proactive move to safeguard the digital space, has officially introduced the Nigeria Police Force – National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC) awareness campaign, tagged “Real Odogwu No Dey Hide Face.”
The NPF-CCC is an initiative flagged off by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu, ably represented by the Director NPF-NCCC, CP Ifeanyi Uche Henry.
Meanwhile, Speaker of Ogun State House of Assembly, Oludaisi Elemide, has called for functional security in local communities to tackle crimes and criminalities across the 20 local councils of the state.
He made the assertion during a security summit, themed “Community Safety, Collaboration and Partnership for a Prosperous Economy,” organised for stakeholders in local communities by Global Pacific Consulting Firm, in collaboration with the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
The Speaker, who was represented by a member representing Abeokuta-North State Constituency, Babatunde Tella, said that the state government had continued to demonstrate commitment to safety and security by supporting Amotekun Corps, Nigeria Police and other security agencies, as well as promoting youths’ engagement through empowerment and employment schemes.
