Ogun govt seals houses, filling station over building permit infractions

Ogun State Building Production Management Authority (OGBPMA) has commenced enforcement of the law against developers who failed to obtain building permits.

The move was with a view to prevent incidents of building collapse in the state.

The agency’s Public Relation Officer, Jibola Taiwo, disclosed that the exercise was held in collaboration with the Central Monitoring Unit (CMU) of the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development.

Taiwo said some commercial buildings in Ibara and Leme; two others on Abiola Way; and an ongoing construction of a shopping complex in Omida, all in Abeokuta, were affected.

Others include a commercial building, a residential building in Obada, and a fuel station in the Ojere area of Abeokuta.

Speaking on the exercise, the Acting General Manager of the Authority, Olakunle Olaniran, said the enforcement was to ensure that developers complete their paperwork before commencement of any building in the state.

He said all the affected buildings had been served series of notices, but the owners failed to regularise their documents.

“When served any notice, the right thing to do is to visit the office of the agency to present available documents and enquire about the next steps to take. All the buildings sealed today did not respond to notices served,” Olaniran added.
