Activities at the State High Court in Ota, Ogun State, were yesterday paralyzed as members of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) continued to enforce their three-day boycott.

The protesting lawyers prevented litigants, legal practitioners and other court users from taking part in any court proceedings, insisting on the suspension of all judicial activities during the action.

The legal practitioners who are members of NBA, Ota branch, embarked on the three-day boycott which started on Monday to protest against unfavorable policies introduced by the Ogun State judiciary.

During the demonstration, the lawyers positioned themselves at the entrance of the Ogun State High Court, Ota, near Honda on the Sango-Ota–Idiroko Road, turning back vehicles and denying access to the court premises.

They displayed placards bearing inscriptions such as “NBA Ota Says No to High Cost of Justice,” “Justice is a Right, Not a Privilege,” “Stand Up for What Is Right,” and “Justice Should Be Accessible to the Poor,” among others, to highlight their grievances.

The lawyers are demanding for the cancellation of limitation of lawyers to four affidavits/Oaths; Hybrid process for affidavits filling, manual code of affidavit filing should go alongside the electronic process.

Others are: Reduction of filing fees for the affidavit to N500; Virtual session fee to be fixed for N25,000.
