Two members of a suspected armed robbery syndicate were yesterday gunned down, while another was arrested by men of the Ogun State Police Command along the Sagamu-Benin-Ore expressway at a spot near J4 Forest.

The State Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, while parading the suspects before journalists at Igbeba Area Command in Ijebu-Ode area of the state, said the Police acted on a tip-off, following a distress call received by his men in Ogbere Divisional Police headquarters, as officers immediately raced to the spot.

According to him, an anti-robbery team, led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ogbere, John Okoh, was engaged in a gun duel with the robbers for hours, adding that other members of the gang managed to escape with various degrees of injury.

“The victims were rescued unhurt and we have launched serious manhunt for the escaped members of the gang. “Recovered from them are single barrel gun, one phone, a carton of car sound protector and other instruments used in their heinous activities.

“I appeal to members of the public, especially hospitals and other health workers, to report to the Police if anybody with gunshot wound is seen around their area,” Iliyasu said.
