Okowa decries overdependence on oil, promises more developments
Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa has reiterated his promise of an even development across the state. He is also optimistic that God will revive both the state and nation’s economies that have been negatively impacted by COVID-19.
He said this during an interdenominational thanksgiving service at the Government House Chapel, Asaba, while decrying Nigeria’s dependence on oil, as its main source of revenue.
Okowa, who called on Christians to pray fervently to God for solution to the scourge, disclosed that the global lockdown occasioned by the pandemic, had led to slump in crude oil price, which had remained Nigeria’s major source of revenue.
He said: “Even in this economic challenge, the Lord will turn things around. All we planned to do, we shall accomplish them together in the name of Jesus.
“We thank God for a peaceful and united Delta in the last five years, especially among the three arms of government. The state had recorded some challenges, but the new security outfit – Operation Delta Hawk – currently being established would stem them…”
