DELTA State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa yesterday deplored Nigeria over dependence on revenue from oil, a situation which has led to economic uncertainty as a result of the down turn in price of oil in the international market.
Okowa, who spoke at the passing out ceremony of 771 Delta State Skills Training and Entrepreneurship Programme (STEP) and Youth Agricultural Entrepreneurs Programme (YAGEP) at Songhai-Delta, Amukpe, said entrepreneurship programme was the way to go for Nigerian economy to get a boost.
The governor told the first set of trainees who passed out after a rigorous three months training that his administration was committed to empowering Delta youths to be entrepreneurs through requisite training, empowerment and mentoring programmes.
The governor commended the trainees for successfully completing the programme, saying: “Before we start any empowerment programme, we will be sure that we have the money to finance it because, it is a programme that we believe in; even as you receive starter packs, it is not yet Uhuru but you have to be committed and look up to God, stay focused and don’t be deceived; be wise and believe in yourself.”
