Project Commissioning To Resume Soon
Delta State Commissioner for Information, Charles Aniagwu, has said that the present administration of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa is laying a solid foundation by putting necessary infrastructure in place for Deltans.

Aniagwu stated that the governor put on hold, his plans to commission some major projects in the state following the deaths of his father, Chief Arthur Okorie Uzoma Okowa, and Majority Leader of the state House of Assembly, Tim Owhefere, last week.

Before then, Okowa had concluded plans to commission some completed projects, including roads, school and other infrastructure across the state from February 2, but the commissioner said during his tour of some media houses in Lagos, including The Guardian, that the exercise would be re-scheduled soon.

Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Olisa Ifeajika, and the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media, Mr. Nelson Egware, accompanied Aniagwu during the tour.

The commissioner listed some road and school projects due for commissioning to include the 4.5-kilometre double-carriage Ubeji road; the access road from Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA) expressway to Warri Refinery; Army Day Secondary School, Effurun, one of the 12 model secondary schools embarked upon by the previous administration, which was 30 per cent completed when Okowa assumed office and Ighogbadu Secondary School, Warri.

“The Ighogbadu Secondary School is an executive response from the governor. It was one of the products of the town hall meetings he had with the people of this area, where he promised to construct a secondary school for the people.

“There are several other projects to be commissioned across the three senatorial zones and the administration will do all within its powers to see that the people of Delta enjoy the dividend of democracy,” Aniagwu stated.

He stated that the Okowa’s government has done a lot in improving physical access to services, noting: “The government has additional service-delivery facilities/outlets created to reduce physical distance covered to access services, rehabilitation and re-equipping of hospitals and health centres and government is also establishing new hospitals.

“In the area of funding the health sector, the administration has a contributory health insurance scheme to improve financial access to services, free healthcare for pregnant women and under-5 children, state-wide drive enrollees ongoing to cover the formal and informal sectors of the state economy,” he stated.
