Okowa orders evacuation of Delta students from Jos over killings

Following renewed killings in Jos, plateau State, Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, has ordered immediate evacuation of students of the state origin from Jos, the Plateau State capital.

Following renewed killings in Jos, plateau State, Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, has ordered immediate evacuation of students of the state origin from Jos, the Plateau State capital.

A statement issued by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Students Affairs, Jerry Ehiwario, said the evacuation exercise commenced on Thursday, August 26, 2021.

He commended Okowa for his prompt approval for the exercise, adding that the lives of Delta students was very dear to the state. Ehiwaro also commended the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Patrick Ukah, for his proactive and prompt response, adding that three buses with police escort has been deployed to move Delta students from the troubled zone.

“When we heard of the killings in Plateau, I wrote to the governor, informing him on the need to evacuate students of Delta origin from the crisis-ridden zone and he approved their evacuation, which commenced yesterday.

“With the approval, Okowa has once again demonstrated his love for Delta students by prioritising their safety.

“On behalf of my colleagues and National Association of Delta State Students (NADESTU), we thank the governor for his intervention and rescue of our brothers and sisters from the crisis zone,” Ehiwario said.
