Okowa, Uduaghan mourn HID Awolowo

DELTA State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and his predecessor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan have joined millions of Nigeria in mourning the matriarch of the Awolowo family, Mrs. Hannah Idowu Dideolu (HID) Awolowo who passed on at the weekend, aged 99.

In a statement in Asaba by his Chief Press Secretary, Charles Ehiedu Aniagwu, Okowa said that the departed nonagenarian and wife of late premier of Western Nigeria, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, would be greatly missed by the people of Ogun State, the Yoruba nation and Nigerians in general.

“We take solace in her immense positive contributions to the society, most especially her role as a modest woman who was noted for her unflinching support to her husband’s political career in the first and second republic.”

Okowa described the deceased as a woman who exhibited an uncommon ability to sustain not only the structure left behind by the late sage but also added a motherly perspective which had seen prominent politicians in the country turn her place into a Mecca of some sort.

While praying God to grant the late HID eternal rest, Okowa enjoined the family and the government of Ogun state to take positive steps to immortalise her legacies.

On his part, Uduaghan said that the news of the death came to him as a shock, adding that the vacuum created as a result of the departure would be hard to fill filially, socially and politically.
