Olawunmi honours DIA invitation over interview with Channels TV
• Adebanjo says arresting Olawunmi a waste of time
• Challenges Buhari to deny allegations
The retired Nigerian Navy (NN) Commodore, Kunle Olawunmi, yesterday, honoured an invitation by the military Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) in Abuja, a few days after he was invited by the agency.
Olawunmi, who arrived at the agency’s office in company of his lawyers – Femi Falana (SAN) and Abubakar Marshall, was invited over his interview with Channels TV last week, where he said the present administration refused to probe high profile politicians whom Boko Haram terrorists named as their sponsors.
BUT Yoruba leader, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, has warned against arresting Olawunmi over his comments on the spate of insecurity in the country.
In an interview with The Guardian in Ogbo-Ijebu, Ogun State, yesterday, Adebanjo said arresting or declaring the retired officer wanted would be a waste of time.
He said Olawunmi just confirmed what he (Adebanjo) had been saying. He, therefore, challenged President Muhammadu Buhari to put a lie to the allegations made by Olawunmi.
Adebanjo said: “It is left for Buhari to deny the allegations made by Olawunmi. It is not to declare him wanted. The man said he was in the inner circle of intelligence. He said he had worked with all heads of state. It is for Buhari to say the man never worked with him. It is for him to say what Olawunmi said is not true. Olawunmi only confirmed what I have been saying. He is inside. I am saying it from outside. The ball is now in the court of Buhari to say the man never worked with him and what he said is a cook-and-bull story.
“If they arrest Olawunmi, they are just wasting their time. The whole world has known the truth.”
