The Olota of Otta-Awori Kingdom, Oba Professor Abdulkabir Adeyemi Obalanlege, has been named the recipient of the City People Magazine Lifetime Achievement Award, in recognition of his contributions to the development of the Otta Kingdom and the traditional institution in Ogun State.
The award, conveyed in a letter dated 15 May 2025 and signed by City People Publisher and Editor-in-Chief, Seye Kehinde, acknowledged the monarch’s “remarkable contributions to the upliftment of Ota Kingdom and the traditional institutions in Nigeria.”
Kehinde noted that the City People Awards for Excellence has, for nearly three decades, recognised distinguished personalities across various sectors, including traditional rulers like Oba Obalanlege.
The award ceremony is scheduled to take place in Lagos on Sunday, 25 May 2025.
Oba Obalanlege ascended the throne in November 2017. A Professor of Mass Communication, he has since led various socio-economic and security initiatives to improve living conditions in Otta and the wider Awori Kingdom. Notably, he established the Olota-Fecodein project — short for Olota Foundation for Economic and Development Initiatives — which has driven increased visibility, infrastructure, and government presence in the region.
The monarch currently serves as Chairman of the Awori Obas Forum in Ogun State and also heads the Ado-Odo/Ota Traditional Council. In both roles, he has championed efforts to unify Awori monarchs and elevate the voice of the Awori people in national affairs.
Oba Obalanlege has remained committed to advancing education, peace, and cultural revival in his domain, with a long-term vision of securing greater prosperity and global recognition for the Awori nation.
