Not fewer than three persons have been gruesomely murdered and 10 others critically injured in their farms by suspected bandits at two separate locations in the state.
Dr. Stephen Angbas, a medical practitioner and proprietor of Angbas Clinic, Lafia, reportedly hacked down by suspected bandits with cutlass while on a motor bike to his farm at Awe Local Government.
Dr. David Ombugadu while expressing worry over the unprovoked murder, described the action as reckless and worrisome as farmers and citizens of the state are unabatedly killed or kidnapped in their homes and farms.
Ombugadu made this known through the head of his campaign media organization, Dr. Mike Omeri, in a statement made available to The Guardian in Lafia.
In the statement, Dr. Ombugadu lamented the barbaric killings and kidnapping that has ravaged and infiltrated into all the nooks and crannies of the state in recent times, noting that the state has become a killing field for the enemies unabated.
“It is sad and worrisome to note that farmers in our state are being hacked down by gunmen unprovoked in their farms. This is not acceptable. The security must do their best to fish out the perpetrators of this dastardly act.”
He however condoled with family members of the victims and prayed God to accept the souls of the departed.
Also, the member representing Akwanga, Wamba and Nasarawa Eggon Constituency in the House of Representatives, Jeremiah Umaru, has expressed concerns over the surge in kidnapping activities in Nasarawa State.
Umaru raised the alarm over the security situation in the state during plenary on Thursday.
Calling for urgent attention in tackling the problem, he lamented that the state was gradually transforming into a haven for armed criminals and kidnappers.
According to him, the situation is posing a significant threat to the safety of residents of the state.
Umaru blamed the insecurity in Nasarawa on the mass infiltration of criminals from neighboring states, stressing that if left unchecked, the problem will have dire economic consequences for the state and Nigeria as a whole.
In its resolution, the House of Representatives urged the Federal Government to establish permanent security formations to strengthen security in the state.
The committees on Defence, Army, Air Force and Police Affairs, as well as Emergency and Disaster Preparedness, were directed to ensure compliance with the resolution.
The two other person’s killed are Emmanuel Ovey and Ovey Christopher, who were murdered in cold blood by yet-to-be identified assailants in their farms in Yelwa Idiya road in Doma Local Government Area of the state.
The two youths were shot dead by suspected Fulani marauder according to eye witness on their way to visit relations who were receiving treatment in a hospital in Doma, following clashes between them and some Fulani herdsmen, leaving them with various degrees of injuries.
