Ondo 2024: Akeredolu anointed me as his successor before his demise, says Akinterinwa
The immediate past Commissioner for Finance in Ondo State and a governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the November election in the state, Wale Akinterinwa, at the weekend, said that he had been anointed by the late former Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu to take the reign of power in the state in 2024.
Akinterinwa, who was one of the members of the State Executive Council (SEC) dissolved by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, said that Akeredolu, before his death, had a discussion with him about running for the governorship seat and taking over as governor.
The governorship aspirant, who was the former Chairman of the Forum of Commissioners of Finance in Nigeria, stated this during an interview on TVC News. He said that the late Akeredolu urged him to gear up to succeed him before his demise, shortly after returning to the country from his medical trip to Germany.
He said: “Late Governor Akeredolu had a discussion with me, and he told me he would want me to take over from him.
“I didn’t take particular notice of the date he discussed with me, but it happened immediately after he came back from his trip to Germany. “He prayed for me, and I am aware he told some people about his desire.
“At the appropriate time, I will officially announce my intention because it is not in doubt that I am still making further consultations, but I can assure you that I will get the ticket.
“The people of Ondo State are with me, and I am very confident that I will win the APC primary.”
