The Ondo State Government has approved a comprehensive welfare package for operatives of the State Security Network Agency, otherwise known as the Amotekun Corps, as part of a move to ensure a sustainable and effective security architecture with the

The initiative according to the state government will cover health insurance coverage, pension benefits, and formal enlistment warrants for the men and officers of the corps.

The move was aimed at professionalizing the security apparatus of the state amid rising concerns over crime prevention and public safety.

According to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the Contributory Health Insurance Scheme will enable operatives and their families to access quality healthcare services, adding that the productivity of personnel at the forefront of the state’s security operations will be enhanced.

It was gathered that the issuance of warrants of service enlistment to officers and personnel of the corps was authorized pending the completion of the required legal framework.

The operatives will also benefit from the Contributory Pension Scheme and the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF), in addition to the existing life insurance policy already in place, according to government sources.

Speaking with journalists in Akure on Monday, the State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Idowu Ajanaku, described the package as a morale-boosting measure designed to enhance the commitment of security operatives to safeguarding lives and property.

“The governor recognizes that without a motivated and well-cared-for security workforce, the fight against crime cannot yield sustainable results. These interventions are not mere gestures but structural changes to the operational environment of our Amotekun corps,” Ajanaku said.

The commissioner further disclosed that 650 operatives had been deployed across the 18 local government areas of the state to ensure adequate security before, during, and after the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.

He assured residents that the government remained committed to proactive measures that would sustain peace and public safety throughout the festive period.

Ajanaku revealed that the corps had arrested 98 suspected criminals, including fake lunatics allegedly linked to kidnapping and robbery activities across the state.

He said the arrests demonstrated the agency’s resolve to combat criminality and reinforce public confidence in the state’s security system.

“We will not relent until every criminal element finds Ondo State too hot to operate. The era of using mental health disguised as a cover for banditry is over,” Ajanaku stated
