…..Says JTF will swiftly tackle crime in Akure

The chairman of Akure South Local Council Area of Ondo State, Gbenga Fasua, has unveiled a security Joint Task Force (JTF) as part of measures to tackle the crimes across the 11 wards of the local government.

With the initiative bringing together security agencies, traditional institutions, and community leaders, Fasua disclosed that the initiative was designed to create a coordinated response to crime prevention and emergency management within the council area.

While describing the move as a bold step towards strengthening peace and security of the region, the council boss maintained that the JTF will operate under clear operational protocols.

According to him, their operation will foster situational awareness and rapid response to threats and ensure professional conduct that upholds the rights and dignity of all residents, adding that their duty is also expected to protect critical infrastructure, support emergency services, and maintain safe spaces for business, education, and workers.

Fasua maintained that the vision behind the initiative was to synergise all existing security agencies alongside traditional rulers and community stakeholders to prevent crimes before they occur.

The move comes amid growing concerns over rising insecurity in parts of the state, particularly in Akure North Local Council Area of the state, which is a neighbouring council.

He said, “Today marks a landmark moment in Akure South Local Government as we launch Akure Local Government‘s special security network that we call the joint task force. This initiative is a clarion call to unity, proactive collaboration and a renewed commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of our people.

“It is a testament to our collective resort to a secured and prosperous, peaceful Akure South for generations yet unborn. Our vision is simple but powerful. To synergise and strengthen all security agencies, traditional institutions, and community leaders to prevent crimes, but it happens.

To foster situational awareness, rapid response and professional conduct that upholds the right and dignity of every resident in the Akure local government, both old and young.

“To reinforce public trust through transparent operation, accountability and continuous engagement with the community. To protect critical infrastructure, support emergency services and ensure safe space for business, education and workers.

“I urge every stakeholder to see this initiative as a common duty rather than a divisive venture. Our strength lies in collaboration, not in competition; in coordination, not in isolation.

The Joint Task Force will operate with a clear protocol, respect for the rule of law and an unwavering commitment to human rights. Our people will thrive without fear.”
