Ondo State government has criticised the All Progressives Congress (APC) over the various allegations of embezzlement levelled against the outgoing administration of Dr. Olusegun Mimiko.

Reacting to the allegations by the Ondo APC Publicity Secretary, Abayomi Adesanya, the Commissioner for Information, Kayode Akinmade condemned the allegations, which it described as “deliberate lies.” Akinmade challenged Adesanya to go public with proof of his claims if any.

The APC’s spokesman had allegedly that Governor Mimiko planned to siphon N1. 585 billion through the Ondo State Wealth Creation Agency (WECA).He said the government was on “looting spree” to frustrate the incoming APC government.

According to Adesanya, “It has come to our knowledge that Ondo State government, specifically on January 4, 2017, took receipt of N1.2 billion physical cash, being amount deposited into the account of the Multilateral Relations Department of the Governor’s Office, as accumulated grants from foreign donors.

“Confirmed information also shows that another N385 million was credited into the account of the WECA. It is sad that unpatriotic and unscrupulous elements within the highest echelon of the outgoing government have activated nefarious plans to siphon this money into private accounts. To perfect this plan, arrangement have been made to transfer the N1.2 billion to WECA, which has been designated as exit point for the money,” the APC alleged.

Adesanya alleged: “It is embarrassing and instructive that WECA headed by Mrs. Bolanle Olafunmiloye is the daughter of Governor Olusegun Mimiko’s eldest sister. It is also an open secret that WECA has always been notorious for such serious allegations of corruption and being a veritable conduit pipe for mindless looting of Ondo state people’s resources.

However, Akinmade replied further: “It is sad that Adesanya remain unchecked in his negative line of attention seeking strategy, which is telling lies against the government of the day.

Akinmade said that Adesanya’s action is unfortunate as he has succeeded only in tagging himself as a non-starter in governance and a chronic liar, who is unreliable enough for a place in any serious government that wants to succeed.”

The information commissioner advised the APC to “tame Adesanya now or purge him of his lies before he becomes an embarrassment to the party and the incoming government.”
