Ondo oil merchant butchers wife, commits suicide
An oil and gas merchant, Sesan Adelabu, committed suicide at the weekend shortly after butchering his wife, Bolu, in Akure, Ondo State.
Adelabu, a socialite, popularly known as ‘Emirate’, carried out the dastardly act after allegedly catching his wife having an affair.
The deceased, who owns multiple filling stations in the state, committed the crime in his residence in the highbrow area of Alagbaka, Akure.
After killing the wife, Adelabu was said to have driven out of his house to buy a deadly insecticide known as sniper.
On getting back to the house, he drank the substance, after which he died too.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Abayomi Oladipo, has ordered an immediate investigation into the incident.
Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, disclosed that the homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, will take over the case.
“The officer attached to the deceased in his house in the Alagbaka area of Akure received a call from the deceased child around 6 p.m. asking after his father.
“When he was not picking up his calls, the policeman, while trying to inform his principal, discovered him face down and lifeless in the toilet, while his wife’s body was found on the bed with multiple cuts suspected to be machete cuts on her head and face.
“An empty container of snipers was also found at the scene.”
The bodies of the deceased’s couple have been deposited at the mortuary, the Police said.
