owo robbersTHE Ondo State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has reprimanded seven of the suspected armed robbers, who attacked and robbed four banks in Owo Local Council of the state two weeks ago, as it recovered 12,000 rounds of ammunition and N9.3 million from them.

The armed robbers numbering about 50 had robbed four new generation banks namely: Ecobank, Wema Bank, First Bank, and Skye Bank
simultaneously, where a bank manager lost his life in the incident and over 15 victims sustaining various degrees of injury in the gun duel that ensued between them and security operatives when trying to escape.

They were among the 89 suspected criminals paraded yesterday by the State Commissioner of Police, Isaac Eke, at the state police headquarters, Akure, the state capital.

Addressing journalists at the Command headquarters, Eke said the suspected armed robbers were among those who killed seven policemen, two bank officials and over 13 members of the public in the recent attack in Owo and the serial attack on Ikare in January.

Eke apprised journalists that all the arms and ammunition were part of the ones carted away from Ikare-Akoko and Owo police stations when
the dare-devil armed robbers sacked the two towns serially.

He also revealed that a pair of police uniforms, 33 of tear gas canisters, police steel helmets and 13 vehicles used for the operation were recovered from the hoodlums.

Meanwhile, a combined joint task force of the Nigerian Army and the Gallery Security Service combated some suspected sea pirates at Ajapa,
in Ese-Odo Local Council in simultaneous operation with the Owo armed robbery attack, killing 16 and arresting seven suspects that same day.

According to him, the heavily armed hoodlums with five speedboats in military uniforms, commanded by one General Ibori, an unrepentant militant, attacked Gallery Security base located at Akanaku Community.

He said 16 of the pirates were killed during a gun battle while seven including Worifaifa Simon M (41), Ikes Omosebi M (32), , Uyeweri
Zacchaeus M (25), Augustine Goto M (23), Ekuiwasemi Loghoga M (26), and Akpos Atunwase M (21) were arrested with rifles of different categories.

Eke also added that 76 suspected cultists and one kidnap suspect were arrested within the last one week in order to rid the state of criminal activities and curtail any perverts that could be used by maverick politicians for outbreak of violence during the forthcoming elections.

He assured the people of the state that his command would improve on the security measures put in place during the next Saturday House of Assembly polls across the 18 LGAs of the state, pledging the proactive preparedness of his men to avert any slight outbreak of pre and post election violence in the state.
