Ondo: Trailer rams into bus, kills six passengers

Tragedy struck, yesterday, in Ajue, along Ondo/Ore Expressway of Odigbo Local Council of Ondo State, as a trailer rammed into a bus, killing six passengers onboard, including a toddler.

The Guardian learnt that the accident occurred when the driver of the trailer, who was coming from Ondo town, lost control, veered off the road and rammed into a Nissan bus loaded with 10 passengers.

Eyewitnesses said six passengers died on the spot as a result of the collision.

According to them, it took the intervention of motorists and sympathisers around the scene before survivors in the vehicle could be rescued and rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The Unit Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ore, Babafemi Alonge, who confirmed the accident, said it involved a truck with registration number MUS 321 YF and a Nissan bus marked: RGB 487 XA.

Alonge explained that the drivers of the two vehicles had a collision as a result of carelessness.

He said: “The accident involved a truck and a Nissan bus loaded with 10 passengers coming from the Ondo axis.

“Unfortunately, the driver of the truck who was heading to Ore lost control and immediately entered the second lane by ramming into the bus.

“Six persons died inside the bus as a result of the collision, while those who sustained injuries were rushed to the hospital by our men.

“Those who lost their lives are one male, four female adults and a female child, while four persons were injured. The deceased persons’ remains have been deposited in the morgue.”
