One dead, another missing as elephant attacks Oyo community

One person has been confirmed dead, while another remains missing following an attack by a wild elephant in Innayin community, Oke-Ogun area of Oyo State.

The incident, which occurred on Thursday, reportedly claimed the life of one Ibrahim Tijani, who sustained fatal injuries during the encounter.

Sources said another resident, Alhaji Muhammadu Bingin, was also attacked by the animal and has since been declared missing.

The body of the deceased has been evacuated to a nearby health facility.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Olayinka Ayanlade, said operatives, in collaboration with local vigilantes and hunters, swiftly responded to a distress call from the community.

“On arrival, the lifeless body of one Ibrahim Tijani was discovered in a nearby bush with injuries consistent with an animal attack. His remains have been evacuated to the General Hospital, Iwere-Ile, for necessary examination and preservation,” he said.

Ayanlade added that search operations were ongoing to locate the missing victim.

“During ongoing search operations, another individual, identified as Alhaji Muhammadu Bingin, was reported missing after an encounter with the same animal. Intensive efforts are currently underway to locate him,” he stated.

He assured residents that the situation was under control, noting that necessary measures were being taken to prevent further attacks.

The police also urged members of the public to avoid the affected area and promptly report any sighting of the animal to security agencies.
