One dies as 18-seater bus rams into four motorcycles in Ibadan
One person was killed, while four others sustained injuries as an 18-seater bus rammed into four motorcycles popularly called Okada in Ibadan.
Officials of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), who were at the scene during the rescue operation, said the commuter bus veered off its lane to the other lane, brushed another Camry car on the side and rammed into the four motorcycles moving in the opposite direction.
According to Head of Unit, Disaster Management, NSCDC, Oyo State Command, DCC Benedict Effanga, the unfortunate incident occurred at about 1644hrs on Wednesday.
“A distress call was put through to the desk of the Disaster Management unit of the State Headquarters, Agodi, Ibadan, at about 1644hrs on Wednesday, June 22, 2022 to report a road accident that involved an 18-seater commuter bus, a Camry car and four motorcycles.
“The commuter bus skid off its lane to the other lane where it rammed into four motorcycles moving in the opposite direction and brushed another Camry car on the side.
“Preliminary investigation by the NSCDC revealed that the cause of the accident was due to brake failure.
“The Commuter bus was damaged along with the Camry car, while the motorcycles were crushed and seriously damaged.”
The corpse has since been taken off the road, while free flow of traffic was immediately restored by the NSCDC officials after a brief gridlock.
