One woman’s vision ignites hope as Funmike Foundation marks two years of transformative impact

Two years ago, Oluwafunmike Esther Salami dared to dream beyond her means, armed only with a heart burdened by the struggles of Nigeria’s underserved. From that quiet resolve, the Funmike Empowerment Foundation (FEF) was born, a nonprofit that has since become a lifeline for thousands, delivering healthcare, education, clean water, and hope to communities across Lagos, Abuja, and beyond.

With no funding or fanfare, Funmike’s vision has grown into a movement. In Kuje, Abuja, and at St. Thomas Anglican Primary School in Ososa, Ogun State, her foundation installed boreholes, ending a 16-year water crisis for a school and providing clean water to nearly 10,000 people.

Free medical outreaches in Lagos and Ibadan have brought Hepatitis A,B and C screenings, malaria testing, health education, eye exams and free medications to those in need, with a strategic partnership with Real Estate Gurus, like Rest Realty, Land Republic, Besitz Group and Luminous Hills amplifying these efforts.

In Ajegunle, over 1,000 lives were touched as 300 children received custom school bags and parents were gifted food supplies that would last two weeks. The foundation’s reach extended to Makoko, where nearly 700 people received school supplies, food, and healthcare.

Education remains a cornerstone of FEF’s mission. Full university scholarships have empowered students like Adeyinka Olufemi Benjamin at the University of Lagos and Shittu-Are Atinuke at Lagos State University, with 25 more scholarships set to be awarded on May 17, 2025, during FEF’s 2nd Anniversary and Scholarship Award Night in Lagos.

At the Heart of Gold Hospice Home in Surulere, donations of food, toiletries, and essentials brought comfort to children with disabilities. Over 200 volunteers, trained in health, education, and outreach, have become torchbearers of Funmike’s compassion-driven mission.

As FEF looks to its third year, plans to launch Learnity, a vocational trade school, expand health programs, and secure sustainable funding signal an even brighter future.
