The Oniru of Iru Kingdom, Oba Abdulwasiu Gbolahan Lawal, has called on leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to mobilise support for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu in 2027, describing the task as a collective responsibility for party stakeholders and traditional institutions.
The monarch stated this while receiving members of the Forum of All Progressives Congress (APC) State Chairmen at his residence in Lagos, saying that traditional rulers would continue to sensitise their communities on the need to support the President’s administration and its programmes.
According to him, Tinubu’s leadership record, from his tenure as governor of Lagos State to his current administration, demonstrates his commitment to development and the welfare of the people.
“If given the opportunity, Nigerians will have no cause to regret supporting him again. Delivering President Tinubu in 2027 is our task, and on our part as traditional rulers, we will do the needful by passing the message to our people,” he said.
The monarch, who recalled his long-standing relationship with Tinubu dating back to 1999, described the President as a leader who listens to diverse opinions before taking decisions and remains committed to fulfilling his promises.
“He loves the masses. From the projects he executed in Lagos as governor to those he has initiated at the national level, his record speaks for itself,” he added.
Oba Lawal also expressed confidence in the ability of APC leaders to secure victory for Tinubu and other party candidates in future elections.
“We want to pray that you will have the capacity to deliver him and all APC flag bearers. One good turn deserves another,” he said.
The traditional ruler noted that, as a member of both the Southern Traditional Rulers Council and the National Traditional Rulers Council, he and other monarchs were working to ensure sustained support for the President’s administration.
Highlighting Tinubu’s legacy in Lagos, Oba Lawal said the transformation of the state from 1999 laid the foundation for its emergence as a modern megacity.
He said major infrastructure such as the Lagos Rail Mass Transit Blue and Red Lines, the Lekki corridor development, and the Lekki Free Trade Zone were products of long-term planning initiated under Tinubu’s administration.
“When he became governor, there was no Blue Line, no Red Line and many parts of Lagos struggled with waste management and inadequate infrastructure. Today, we have a functioning Free Trade Zone, the first of its kind in West Africa, because of the vision that was put in place,” he said.
The monarch also cited education initiatives, including scholarship programmes, as examples of Tinubu’s commitment to human capital development.
To further document the President’s achievements in Lagos, Oba Lawal said he had authored a book titled From City to Mega City: 1999 to 2003, which chronicles the developmental strides recorded during Tinubu’s tenure as governor.
He presented copies of the book, alongside a symbolic statue of Lagos, to the APC chairman and other dignitaries at the event.
