Sylvester Oromoni (Jnr)

Rosemary Oromoni, the mother of Sylvester Ormomoni, the pre-teen secondary school student who died after enduring bullying from other students of Dowen College, is dead.

Her death comes seven months after a court in Lagos ruled against the family on the matter. Quoting an unnamed source in the family, The Cable reported that Rosemary died in late November after battling a blood pressure-related illness.

After Sylvester’s death in November 2021, his parents charged Dowen College to court. They claimed that the 12-year-old was bullied, beaten up, and fed a chemical substance by five male students of the school.

The school management countered Sylvester’s parents, alleging that he sustained injuries while playing football with his friends.

Two months after his death, his parents conducted an autopsy to determine the cause of his death.
The autopsy revealed that he died of “acute lung injury due to chemical intoxication”, but was discredited. Another autopsy was conducted by the Department of Public Prosecution (DPP) in Lagos.

This second autopsy declared that he died naturally.
The case was in court between 2022 and April 224, when a magistrate court in Ogba Lagos court dismissed the case and Favour Benjamin, Micheal Kashamu, Edward Begue, Ansel Temile, and Kenneth Inyang, who were accused of bullying and beating Sylvester and contributed to his death.

Mikhail Kadiri, the coroner who presided over the case, ruled that the 12-year-old died of sepsis emanating from an infection of the lungs and kidney caused by an ankle injury.
