Oshiomhole tasks corps members on nation-building
GOVERNOR Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State yesterday described the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) a beacon of hope and an indispensable factor in national development, saying the scheme had greatly enhanced the unity of the country.
The governor, who was speaking in Benin City at the passing-out ceremony of the 2014 Batch ‘C’ corps members, urged the over 2,476 that successfully completed the national service to be of good behaviour as they join the outside world in contributing their quota to the society.
Represented by the Commissioner for Education, Gideon Obhakhan, he said: “ The world you are stepping into is currently undergoing rapid changes and it, therefore, behooves you to make appropriate responses to these challenges posed by the world.
“The NYSC scheme has greatly enhanced our unity as a nation. It is indeed a beacon of hope and an indispensable factor in our national development aspirations. It is however a known fact that the task of nation building is a collective duty for all, most especially the youths,” Oshiomhole stated.
The governor, while condoling with the NYSC management over the death of two corps members deployed to the state, said youths as future leaders, determine the socio-economic development of any nation, stressing that his administration would continue to do all within its powers to encourage the scheme in the state.
