Osinbajo commissions 2.8mw solar plant in Ebonyi today
Leveraging its off-grid captive power plants to provide uninterrupted power supply to Nigerian students, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo will today commission the first solar hybrid power project under the Energizing Education Programme (EEP) at the Ebonyi State University.
The Federal Government under its EEP initiative hopes to improve education with commissioning of the 2.8MW plant at the Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike-Ikwo (FUNAI), Ebonyi State.
The project is expected to serve 7,700 students and 1,819 faculty staff at FUNAI and will help them access clean reliable energy from the university’s 2.8MW solar hybrid power plant.
Chief Executive Officer of Rural Electrification Agency (REA), Mrs. Damilola Ogunbiyi, explained that the EEP is a Federal Government intervention programme focused on developing off-grid and dedicated independent power plants.It will also help to rehabilitate existing distribution infrastructure to supply clean and reliable power to 37 federal universities and seven university teaching hospitals.
