Osinbanjo pledges women development, gender equality
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has assured of the Federal Government’s commitment to women development and gender equality.
Speaking yesterday in Abuja during a conference on mainstreaming gender issues in disaster management, with the title, “Gender, Women and Disaster Risk Management: Towards a Gender Sensitive Policy Framework in Nigeria”, he reiterated that government was fully committed to the security of lives and property as well as empowerment of women to promote inclusive growth.
Represented by the Humanitarian Liaising Officer in his office, Ogungbemi Olabisi, the Vice President said the Federal Government was determined to liberate and reintegrate the rest of the Chibok girls.
Earlier in his remarks, the Director General of National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Muhammad Sani-Sidi, expressed worry at the marginalisation of women in the development of disaster risk management (DRM) policies and in decision-making process.
Sani-Sidi, who stressed that women’s voices usually go unheard in DRM, said while their vulnerability to disaster is often highlighted, their role and contributions to building resilience have often been overlooked.
