Osun 2026: Campaign of calumny won’t stop APC’s victory, says chieftain

Osun State governor Ademola Adeleke

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, yesterday, said that the alleged campaign of calumny against the party and its governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, would not prevent the party from securing victory at the August 15 gubernatorial polls in Osun State.

In a statement, Oyintiloye, who hitherto represented Obokun State Constituency in the House of Assembly, attributed a series of accusations levelled against the APC and its candidate to the opposition’s fear of defeat.

According to him, no amount of lies, false allegations, or fabricated stories would sway the resolve of the people, who, he said, are determined to vote for the APC and its candidate.

He implored the people of the state to remain steadfast and not be misled by desperate individuals seeking to derail the state’s return to progressive governance.

However, concerns are also growing about preparedness for the election, as reports of resignations and defections continue to surface in political circles.

The situation has also drawn attention to Governor Ademola Adeleke, with observers pointing to what they describe as slow campaign coordination and limited visible activity ahead of the polls.

In a statement over the weekend, Convener of the Osun Accord Liberation Movement, Yusuf Adegboye, said, “The Accord Party is in a critical moment, and there is no clear direction. People are confused. The silence is dangerous.”

Adegboye also warned that going into an election without a defined campaign structure could signal deeper issues.

“You cannot go into an election of this magnitude without a campaign structure. Failure to appoint a campaign director-general at this stage signals deep internal cracks,” he added.

However, the resignation of Osunrotimi Ifeoluwa, a board member of the Osun State Council for Arts and Culture, adds to the concerns.

Osunrotimi, in his resignation letter dated April 10, 2026, stated: “I am writing to formally resign from my position as board member. I believed I was assigned this position to serve the people of Osun State and my constituency, but there is nothing to write home about. No empowerment, not a single opportunity coming out from the ministry to my constituency people.”

He added that despite their support during the last election, they hardly enjoy anything.

Also, there are increasing reports that some party members and appointees are leaving or aligning with other political platforms.

A source familiar with the situation said the trend is causing unease within the ruling camp.

Meanwhile, the Ademola Adeleke Campaign Organisation has called on former Osun State governor, Gboyega Oyetola, and the governorship candidate of the APC in the state, Bola Oyebamiji, to accept the will of the Osun people ahead of the governorship election, warning against any plot to incite post-election chaos.

In a statement, the organisation said it was reacting to what it described as “leaked threats” by some top Osun APC leaders to disrupt peace if Adeleke is re-elected.
