Osun govt spends over N1.6b on meals, N115m on fumigation in six months

The Osun State Government spent a total of 1,789,994,329.83 on refreshment, meals, cleaning and fumigation services between January and June of 2025, The Guardian has found.

The Guardian’s correspondent found this by perusing the state’s budget performance document for the second quarter of 2025.

An analysis of the Osun State’s budget performance document revealed that the state government spent the sum of N115,682,248.83 on cleaning and fumigation services. This was classified under the other services subsection of the total expenditure by economic classification section of the budget performance document in line item 22020605.

The state government had allocated the sum of 802,707,400.00 for cleaning and fumigation in its budget of 2025 and between the first quarter and second quarter of 2025, it had spent 115,682,848.83, representing 14.4% of the allocated amount.

An analysis of the state government’s spending on refreshment and meals, which was classified under the miscellaneous expenses general subsection of the state’s budget performance document for the second quarter of 2025, under line item 22021001, revealed that the sum of 2,550,920,000.00 was allocated for this purpose for the 2025 fiscal year.

However, the sum of 528,196,110.00 was spent on refreshment and meals in the second quarter of the year, while 1,146,115,971.00 was spent for this purpose in the first quarter, bringing the total amount spent on refreshment and meals in the first half of the year to 1,674,312,081.00.
