Osun to restructure tertiary institutions

Osun State governor, Governor Rauf Aregbesola has said that his administration plans massive restructuring of the education sector in 2016 to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in running the state’s of tertiary education.

He confirmed stoppage of admission in all the four tertiary institutions including Osun State polytechnic, Iree, College of Technology, Esa Oke , Osun State Colleges of Education in Ila Orangun and Ilesa stating that the stoppage did not translate to intention for merger.

Speaking yesterday at an interactive session with members of the state Correspondents’ Chapel at the Governmet House Okefia,Osogbo, the governor dismissed the rumour making rounds in the state on alleged plan to merge the tertiary institutions saying none of the existing schools would be obliterated out but they would witness restructuring for better service delivery.

He explained that the need for restructuring was informed by the state of education in the state whereby about 70 per cent of secondary school pupils are unable to have requisite qualification to gain admission to tertiary institutions stressing that government new thinking would create access for remedial programmes in the two polytechnics to enable students make up for their deficiency and move on to regular tertiary education.

He said, “I went to the College of Technology, Esa Oke and I saw a deplorable state and I called the Governing Council that the situation must change.
