The Campaign Council of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Osun State, Bola Oyebamiji, AMBO, on Wednesday chided Governor Ademola Adeleke‘s alleged non adherence to Fiscal Responsibility Law.
The Council in a statement by its spokesperson, Remi Omowaiye, warned
that the persistent concealment of the state’s financial records has become a serious threat to transparency, accountability and good governance.
Omowaiye, who argued that three months after the expiration of the statutory deadline, the Adeleke administration had failed to publish the First Quarter (Q1) 2026 Budget Implementation Report as expressly required by law, saying such development amounted to alleged fiscal indiscipline.
He further pointed out that by the provisions of Section 46 of the Osun State Fiscal Responsibility Law, 2012, the state government is mandated to publish a summarized report on budget execution within 30 days after the end of each quarter.
While insisting that the Q1 report ought to have been released not later than the end of April 2026, Omowaiye stated: “Today regrettably, as at today, there has been no publication. This deliberate silence is roguish and has inevitably fueled widespread speculation that the government is doctoring financial records in a desperate bid to evade public scrutiny and ongoing investigations by the EFCC and other anti-corruption agencies.”
The statement reads, “Even more disturbing is the fact that the Adeleke administration has also refused to publish the audited accounts of Osun State for the 2025 financial year, in blatant violation of Section 45(1) of the Osun State Fiscal Responsibility Law, 2012, which unequivocally provides that:
“The State Government shall publish not later than six months following the end of the financial year in the State Official Gazette, newspapers of national and local circulation or the website of the Ministry of Finance.”
The refusal to comply with these statutory provisions is not a mere administrative oversight; it is a grave breach of the law and an affront to the principles of openness upon which democratic governance is founded.
“By withholding the Q1 Budget Performance Report, the Adeleke government has effectively concealed from the people the true state of Osun’s finances, including the actual figures for internally generated revenue (IGR), federal allocations, recurrent and capital expenditures, and other critical financial transactions funded with taxpayers’ money.”
